Daily Routine
The winter can be brutal, especially in West Texas with the dry wind and abundance of dirt. Roxanne recommends starting and ending your day with a non-stripping cleanser like a cream to foam, instead of gel cleanser then follow up with a hyaluronic acid topped off with Vitamin E. By layering the Vitamin E over the hyaluronic acid, it allows the acid to pull the Vitamin E deeper into the skin to give you maximum benefits! Then in the morning, follow up with a mineral based sunscreen to complete your routine. Using a mineral based sunscreen (Roxanne recommends Zo Skin Health Sheer Fluid Sunscreen) doesn’t interfere with your hormones or your skin's PH and is ideal if you suffer from PCOS.
Double cleanse at night if needed (especially if you wear makeup,) then follow up with your hyaluronic acid and Vitamin E to give a perfect ending to your day.
Also, be sure to exfoliate 3x a week to help remove any stubborn gunk that could be built up from day-to-day activities.
Acne Prone Skin
For teens and more sensitive skin that tends to breakout, use the recommended steps above- however, be sure you are not using a traditional means of exfoliation. The abrasive texture used when exfoliating can cause acne to spread (you are literally taking off the top layer and spreading everything around!) Instead, Roxanne recommends using a chemical exfoliant like Paula's Choice BHA toner and to spot treat your problem areas with a clay mask (Pro Tip: wash the mask off with warm water instead of wiping off with a washcloth- washcloths are super abrasive and can harbor a ton of bacteria!) Using a moisturizer with Aloe will add extra healing to the sensitive skin as well (Roxanne loves the Skin Script Light Aloe Moisturizer.) If you suffer from post acne redness, adding in niacinamide to your routine will help with oil production as well as reduce any redness you may have.
Mature Skin
Mature Skin can also benefit from our recommended routine listed above, but adding a Vitamin C serum under your sunscreen in the mornings will help enhance your sunscreen and add an extra layer of protection from any free radicals. Also, implementing a retinol is key to keeping skin looking smooth. Start off with a retinol 3x a week then after 4 weeks, slowly start adding in an extra day until you are using it nightly. Another great additive is Zo Skin Health Growth Factor Serum, which helps strengthen weak skin and restores hydration.
Gym & Skin
It’s a new year, and we all are hitting the gym hard with our new year's resolutions but be sure to take your skincare into consideration when you're prepping to sweat. Going in with a clean face and a light moisturizer and SPF will help keep your skin free and clear of any extra buildup. You can even keep a travel sized hydrating toner in your gym bag to help rehydrate as needed. Once you're done with your gains for the day, be sure to wash your hands first, then double cleanse your skin to help prevent any acne from sneaking into the picture.
Skincare Cycling
The summer sun does hard work on our fragile skin. Roxanne recommends using the cool winter months to combat that skin damage by scheduling more invasive treatment such as chemical peels and microneedling. Seeing your esthetician every 4 weeks is ideal to stay on top of your skin and prep for the upcoming summer. Once spring and summer hit, it’s much easier to space out appointments and come in for maintenance to keep your skin looking fresh.
Having perfect skin is on almost everyone’s vision board for 2024- and these tips can only take you so far. Be sure to check with your esthetician to see exactly what is best for your skin type & what regimens you can implement daily. If you don’t have an esthetician and are in the Midland area, be sure to book with Roxanne to get that perfect glass-like skin!
